Young Entrepreneurs Day is a partnership between Lewis Cass ISD and The Edward Lowe Foundation. The first Young Entrepreneurs Day took place on April 28, 2006 on the Lowe Foundation grounds. Thirty-three students from the four Cass County school districts presented their business plans for review to fourteen volunteers from the community. Six students received $50 U. S. savings bonds as winners of the “business plan competition.” The next Young Entrepreneurs day will be held on April 24, 2009 at the Edward Lowe Foundation headquarters in Cassopolis, Michigan. Career Pathway Day is a partnership between Lewis Cass ISD, Southwestern Michigan College and Cass County local school districts. High School 10th graders from Cass County attend a full day on the Dowagiac or Niles Campuses of SMC to gain first hand knowledge about two Career Pathways of their choosing. The goal of the day is to help students plan for the future. A reception was held at Lewis Cass Intermediate School District on April 17, 2008 to honor 33 Senior CTE students. Students must be nominated by their instructors for excellence in their CTE classes. Honor students attended classes at Cassopolis Ross Beatty High School, Dowagiac Union High School, Edwardsburg High School, Elkhart Area Career Center, Marcellus High School and Southwestern Michigan College Career Academies. Each student received an engraved plaque and certificate. Fourteen of the students received $250 scholarships for post-secondary education.
