SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

LCISD provides support for the continual advancement of our local districts’ efforts to improve student achievement.  This area primarily relates to Public Act 25 and P.A.’s 337 and 339.

CURRICULUM LEADERSHIP

Given that the Michigan Curriculum Framework Standards and Benchmarks plus GLCE’s & HSCE's are not a curriculum, LCISD provides assistance in understanding, interpreting, applying and constructing real curricula.

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND

LCISD provides assistance and support to our local districts in both interpreting and applying these “Federal” rules and requirements.  These are analogous to PA 25 / School Improvement “on steroids”.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

LCISD supports both educational and curricular development opportunities by providing professional advancement for those who work with our very youngest learners, most notably through our annual mini conference.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT EVENTS

These are areas where we provide direct service and learning opportunities to the students of our county.

SPELLING BEE:  We essentially "produce and direct" our county's 25+  years tradition of the Spelling Bee.   Michaela Curtis (Edwardsburg 8th grader) is the current defending champion.

ELEMENTARY SCIENCE OLYMPIAD:  This is a more creative and learning-oriented version of Science Olympiad than the one for Junior and Senior high students.   Our county's version is designed for 3rd through 5th grade students.
MATH-A-RAMA:  As with all of our youth programs, we produce/direct this special "competition" that resembles the competition of older students.  This program serves 3rd through 5th graders.
YOUNG WRITERS' DAY:  LCISD produces/directs this fine celebration of student writing both by exhibiting literally hundreds of student works, and by introducing our children to published authors and illustrators, as well as leading storytellers.
MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH MEET:   LCISD produces and directs this more seriously competitive mathematics meet for more than 325 6th through 8th grade students from St. Joe, Van Buren, Berrien and Cass counties.
REGIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD:  LCISD provides active support and assistance to Van Buren ISD and St. Joe County ISD in order to produce this "Grand Daddy" of all science competitions.   Our region includes three counties and has been held at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in recent years.
