Community Based Work Training Sites were used by five of our programs.
Students attended two days of outdoor activities at Camp Friedenswald.
New technology hardware and software was purchased for most or our programs.
The Food Services Department at Brookside was inspected by the State of Michigan Health, Fire and Accounting
Departments and passed with flying colors.
Students participated in Special Olympic basketball and track and field with the help of Civitan.
Immunizations of all students was 100% by February 1.
Students had a variety of opportunities to participate with general education peers by attending classes with
them and interacting with student tutors who assist in the special education classrooms.
The Brookside custodial staff have spent many hours to make our school a safe, beautiful and accessible facility
for students and the community.
Transition plans were written for all students, 16 years of age and older.
Cooperative efforts between county agencies were done to meet student needs. Michigan Rehabilitation Services
serviced 7 students, Woodlands provided case management for many of the students with mental disabilities, and
the Center for Independent Living assisted 4 students in the Community Skills Center program.
Self-esteem was promoted among staff and students through a variety of activities including: Student of
the Month; Mandt Training; teaching decision making and problem solving; attending a seminar on Peer Mediation;
expanding the Wellness Program for staff; encouraging staff to walk before and after school; and planning in-services
dealing with stress.
A Crisis Response Team was trained and utilized to develop a plan and communicate to staff.
A Housing Fair for the Disabled was held in the fall with representatives from 17 agencies sharing information
on services. Parent participation was 95%.
A Parent Support Group was established with regular meetings. Child care was provided.
The Early On of Cass County began meeting monthly to better service the families of infants and young children.
